Strong Storms Possible Overnight in the Piney Woods Area

LIVINGSTON, TX (June 8, 2025) – Residents across the Piney Woods region are being urged to stay weather-aware late tonight as a line of strong to severe thunderstorms is expected to develop to the north and drift southward into the early morning hours.

According to the latest forecasts, these storms are likely to form north of the region this evening and could persist long enough to impact areas from the Piney Woods down toward the I-10 corridor between 1:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. Though some weakening is expected as the system moves south, meteorologists warn that the strongest cells may remain intact, posing a risk of isolated severe weather.

The primary threats include damaging winds and large hail, which could affect areas in Polk, San Jacinto, Trinity, and Liberty counties. Scattered showers may extend as far south as the I-10 corridor, impacting early morning travel.

“Even though this is expected to be an overnight event, people should not let their guard down,” said local weather spotter Terri Peden. “Make sure your weather alerts are turned on and that your family knows where to take shelter if needed.”

Monday’s forecast continues the trend of hot, humid conditions, with highs reaching the low 90s and a renewed chance for heavy thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon hours. Flash flooding, hail, and damaging winds are possible again Monday, making this a critical two-day period for severe weather potential.
