Dayton, TX — A deadly crash involving two commercial vehicles occurred Wednesday morning, May 28, at the intersection of FM 1960 and County Road 608, prompting a swift response from Dayton police, EMS, and fire crews.

Authorities arrived on scene at approximately 10:58 a.m. to find a devastating head-on collision between an 18-wheeler hauling a cargo trailer and a commercial roll-off truck. According to preliminary reports, the 18-wheeler had been traveling westbound on FM 1960 when the eastbound roll-off truck lost control and crossed into oncoming traffic.
The driver of the 18-wheeler, identified as 63-year-old Lawrence Al James of Houston, sustained critical injuries and was transported to Liberty Dayton Regional Medical Center. Despite efforts to save him, James later succumbed to his injuries.
The roll-off truck was occupied by two individuals, both from Houston. The driver, 53-year-old Gloria Braxton, and passenger, 53-year-old Oscar Gonzalez-Enrique, were injured in the crash and taken to Kingwood Hospital for treatment. Their current conditions have not been released.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation by local authorities. The section of FM 1960 near CR 608 was closed for several hours as emergency crews worked to clear the wreckage and conduct an on-site investigation.
