CORRIGAN, TX — May 20, 2025
A Woodville man suspected in a Sunday morning shooting at a Corrigan apartment complex has surrendered to authorities, according to local law enforcement.

Corrigan police responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 11:56 a.m. on May 18 at the Corrigan Square Apartments, located in the 100 block of Bluebonnet Circle. Upon arrival, officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was initially transported to a nearby hospital and later transferred to a Houston facility. As of Monday, he was reported to be in stable condition; his identity has not been released.
Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from an argument between two men concerning the treatment of the victim’s son. The suspect fled the scene in a white 2014 Volkswagen Passat. Corrigan police identified the suspect as 32-year-old Darius Deshaun Hawthorne of Woodville.
On Tuesday morning, Hawthorne turned himself in to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office around 9:15 a.m. He was wanted in Polk County on ten charges related to the weekend shooting. The Texas Rangers were scheduled to interview Hawthorne before his transfer to Polk County.
