18-Wheeler and SUV Collide in Goodrich, Sending One to Hospital

May 19, 2025 | Goodrich, Texas

A late-night collision between an SUV and an 18-wheeler in Goodrich sent one woman to the hospital and temporarily shut down the southbound lanes of US-59 on Sunday night.

The accident occurred shortly before 11 p.m. on May 18, when a black 2020 Infiniti QX, driven by 40-year-old Adana Mottley of Houston, was traveling southbound through the Goodrich area. According to initial reports, an 18-wheeler operated by Lester Dwayne Crawford, 41, also of Houston, was attempting to turn around from the northbound lanes into the southbound lanes of the highway, near Air Castle Road. Crawford allegedly failed to yield the right of way, resulting in a collision.

The SUV struck one of the trailer’s rear tire sets, causing it to veer off the highway. The vehicle slid roughly 20 feet down into a gully, landing backward. Despite the dramatic impact, Mottley and her family, who were in the vehicle at the time, were able to safely exit and make their way back up to the roadside.

Emergency services responded swiftly. Units from the City of Livingston Police Department, Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Livingston and Goodrich Volunteer Fire Departments, and Texas Highway Patrol arrived at the scene. State Troopers Cesar Davila and Damon Zarate led the investigation.

Mottley was transported to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital for precautionary evaluation. No serious injuries were reported at the time of the incident.

The trailer portion of the 18-wheeler blocked both southbound lanes of US-59, causing traffic delays while emergency crews worked to clear the scene. As of 12:30 a.m., cleanup efforts were still in progress.

The Texas Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation. Crawford is expected to be cited for failure to yield.
