Corrigan Police Investigate Shooting at Local Apartment Complex, Suspect at Large

Corrigan, TX — May 18, 2025

Authorities in Corrigan are actively investigating a shooting that occurred late Sunday morning at Corrigan Square Apartments, leaving one man hospitalized and a suspect on the run.

According to a press release from the Corrigan Police Department, officers were dispatched to 116 Bluebonnet Circle at approximately 11:56 a.m. following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers learned that the shooting victim—a male whose identity has not yet been released—had already been transported to a hospital in Houston by a private vehicle. The victim is currently in stable condition.

Preliminary findings suggest the shooting stemmed from a dispute between two men over the treatment of the victim’s son. The situation escalated, resulting in the suspect allegedly opening fire before fleeing the scene.

The suspect has been identified as Darius Deshaun Hawthorne, a 32-year-old man from Woodville. Hawthorne is described as a bald Black male, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall. Authorities say he fled the area in a 2014 white Volkswagen Passat and is believed to be armed and dangerous. He is also a known felon.

“No arrests have been made at this time,” the statement said. “Our Criminal Investigation Division is actively following up on all leads, and we urge anyone with information to come forward.”

The Corrigan Police Department is asking the public to report any information that may assist in locating Hawthorne. Tips can be submitted directly to the department at (936) 398-2551 or anonymously through Polk County Crime Stoppers at (936) 327-STOP.

The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities say updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
