POLK COUNTY, TEXAS – May 13, 2025 — Georgia-Pacific has announced a $70,000 donation to support volunteer and professional fire departments across East Texas, reinforcing its ongoing commitment to local emergency services. The funds will assist with essential operational needs, such as fuel, equipment upgrades, electricity, and insurance—critical components for departments that respond to hundreds of emergency calls each year.
The Corrigan Volunteer Fire Department, which answers approximately 150 emergency and fire calls annually, is among the recipients of the donation. Fire Chief Jimmy McDonald said the funds will help sustain the department’s daily operations. “We are grateful to have businesses like Georgia-Pacific in our community who step up to provide the financial support we need to do our jobs efficiently and effectively,” he said.

The contribution from Georgia-Pacific will be distributed among several departments, including those in Diboll, Fuller Springs, Pineland, Livingston, Onalaska, Corrigan, Bronson, Six Mile, Pendleton Harbor, Hemphill, and the City of Lufkin. The donation follows an earlier $200,000 investment by the company toward the construction of Corrigan VFD’s new fire station, completed earlier this year.

“Whether full-time professionals or dedicated volunteers, these individuals are first on the scene, putting their lives on the line to protect lives and property,” said Yana Ogletree, Georgia-Pacific’s Public and Government Affairs Manager for Texas. “This donation is one way we can help ensure they have the tools and support they need.”
Other fire departments echoed their appreciation for the support. Aaron Smith, Fire Chief of Diboll Volunteer Fire Department, noted that the donation will go toward purchasing a cordless rescue saw. “Support from businesses like Georgia-Pacific makes a real difference. It allows us to stay prepared and better serve our community when every second counts.”
The Fuller Springs Volunteer Fire Department, which has 14 members and responds to about 250 calls annually, plans to use the funds to update rescue equipment. Fire Chief Bobby Cranford expressed his department’s gratitude, saying, “Georgia-Pacific has supported our efforts for many years, and we are so appreciative of their ongoing assistance to keep our fire department equipped to help our neighbors while keeping our volunteer firefighters safe.”
Livingston’s Volunteer Fire Department, which covers nearly 300 square miles with a 41-member team, recently expanded its fleet with two new trucks. “Financial contributions from companies like Georgia-Pacific allow us to get the tools and equipment we need to keep our communities safe,” said Fire Chief Corky Cochran.
Similarly, the Pineland Volunteer Fire Department will use the funds to update essential gear such as air packs, hoses, and bunker gear.
Georgia-Pacific emphasized that whether firefighters serve full-time or volunteer their time, their role is indispensable. “These men and women exemplify courage, commitment, and public service,” said Ogletree. “Their work saves lives, protects property, and strengthens the fabric of our communities. We honor their service—and stand united in supporting the resources and recognition they deserve.”
