Montgomery County, TX – May 2025
A fatal crash Tuesday evening on FM 2090 claimed the life of Jonathan Burrell, a 28-year-old father from Onalaska, Texas, and left three young children injured.

According to authorities, Burrell was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe eastbound near Firetower Road when he is believed to have fallen asleep at the wheel. The SUV left its lane, struck a guardrail, crossed into westbound traffic, and collided with a concrete bridge over Spring Branch.
Burrell was partially trapped in the wreckage and required extrication by emergency crews from the Caney Creek Fire Department. He was transported to Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Three small children in the vehicle—each around five years old—suffered minor injuries, with one possibly sustaining a broken arm. None of the children were restrained at the time of the crash, according to first responders. All three were taken to Memorial Hermann The Woodlands by Montgomery County Hospital District (MCHD) personnel and listed in stable condition.
Burrell, a resident of the quiet East Texas town of Onalaska, was remembered by some on social media as a devoted father. The circumstances of the crash are still under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Officials continue to emphasize the dangers of drowsy driving and remind the public of the critical importance of using proper child restraints at all times.
