Livingston Educator Kristina Miller Named National History Day Teacher of the Year Nominee

May 15, 2025 | Livingston, TX — Kristina Miller, a dedicated teacher at Livingston Junior High School, has been honored as one of 71 educators nationwide nominated for the 2025 National History Day (NHD) Teacher of the Year Award.

The NHD Teacher of the Year Award recognizes educators who demonstrate exceptional commitment to teaching history through innovative classroom instruction and active student engagement. Nominees are selected based on their dedication to the NHD program, effective use of primary sources, and implementation of active learning strategies that promote historical thinking skills.

Each nominee, including Miller, has not only fostered a deep understanding of history among their students but also encouraged participation in the National History Day Contest, which engages over half a million students annually in conducting original research on historical topics.

The winners—one at the junior level and one at the senior level—will be announced during the National History Day National Contest Awards Ceremony on June 12, 2025, in College Park, Maryland. Each will receive a $5,000 cash prize in recognition of their outstanding contributions to history education.

Livingston Independent School District celebrated Miller’s nomination on social media, stating, “Congratulations, Kristina Miller! Livingston Junior High teacher, Mrs. Miller, has been named a 2025 National History Day Teacher of the Year Award Nominee.”
