Liberty County Commissioner David Whitmire Indicted on Multiple Felony Charges

April 23, 2025 — Liberty County Precinct 3 Commissioner David Whitmire has been indicted by a grand jury on three felony charges: sexual assault, solicitation of prostitution, and official oppression. The indictments were handed down following a closed session earlier today.

The Texas Department of Public Safety has confirmed that the Texas Rangers are conducting an investigation into the matter. Whitmire’s attorney, Chris Tritico, stated that arrangements have been made for Whitmire to surrender to authorities and post bond on Thursday morning.

District Attorney Jennifer Bergman emphasized her commitment to holding public officials accountable, stating:

“Public officials must be held to a higher standard. When they betray the trust placed in them by the community, they damage not only their own integrity but also the public’s confidence in our system as a whole. I refuse to stand by or be complicit in any ‘good old boy’ system.”

This development follows earlier controversies involving Whitmire, including a January incident where he and County Judge Jay Knight were reportedly heard mocking animal advocates during a public meeting.

Whitmire has served as the owner of D&W Dozer for over 20 years, providing services such as batwing mowing, slope mowing, and dozer work through contracts with the county commissioner’s office. His experience in this role contributed to his knowledge of county roads and neighborhoods.

As of now, no official statements have been released by Whitmire or other county officials regarding the indictments. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
