Man Fatally Shot During Domestic Dispute in Polk County Subdivision

Polk County, TX – April 21, 2025 — A domestic dispute turned deadly Sunday evening in the quiet Southland Plantation subdivision of Polk County, when deputies responded to reports of a disturbance and discovered one man fatally shot.

According to a press release from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 8:00 p.m. on April 20 to a residence following reports of a domestic incident. Upon arrival, law enforcement officers encountered a woman who had allegedly been physically assaulted and a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.

Emergency medical personnel arrived on the scene shortly after and pronounced the male victim dead. Authorities have not yet released the identities of either individual involved in the incident, pending notification of next of kin.

Preliminary findings suggest the altercation began as a verbal dispute between the husband and wife that escalated into physical violence. During the confrontation, the woman allegedly retrieved a firearm and shot her husband.

The female involved was transported to a local hospital to be treated for injuries believed to have been sustained during the struggle. Her condition has not been disclosed.

The investigation remains ongoing, and officials say no charges have been filed at this time as detectives continue to gather evidence and conduct interviews. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has not yet confirmed whether the incident will be classified as a case of self-defense.

Residents of the normally peaceful neighborhood expressed shock over the violence. “It’s scary to think something like this could happen so close to home,” one neighbor told reporters. “They seemed like a quiet couple.”

The sheriff’s office urges anyone with information related to the incident to come forward as the investigation continues.
