FM 787 Bridge Over Trinity River Reopens After Extensive Repairs

Romayor, TX – After months of construction, the FM 787 bridge over the Trinity River has officially reopened to traffic, restoring a vital transportation link for residents and businesses in Liberty County.

The bridge was initially closed in May 2024 due to severe structural damage caused by flooding, which washed away supports and led to the collapse of the eastbound approach road. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) awarded an $11.8 million emergency repair contract to Ragle Construction, Inc., with the goal of completing the project in under six months.

Despite weather-related delays, crews worked around the clock to ensure the bridge’s structural integrity. By mid-March 2025, major construction milestones had been achieved, including bridge inspections and the installation of safety features such as crash cushions and road signage.

“The reopening of this bridge is a huge relief for our community,” said a local official. “For months, residents had to endure long detours, but now they have a safe and reliable route once again.”

TxDOT has also announced plans to build a new, more permanent bridge at a different location to further strengthen the region’s infrastructure.

For now, the reopening of the FM 787 bridge marks a significant step toward restoring normalcy for travelers and businesses in the area.
