In a bold and controversial move, the Franklin County Republican Party has unanimously passed a resolution calling on Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo to ban all mRNA-based injections statewide, citing what they describe as a “public health emergency.”
The resolution, passed this week, specifically targets mRNA technology used in COVID-19 vaccines such as those developed by Pfizer and Moderna. Supporters of the measure claim the vaccines are dangerous and referred to them as a “bioweapon,” alleging that over 9 million children have been injected with the product in question.
“This is not a vaccine—this is a biological weapon,” one supporter said during the meeting. “We must protect our children and our future generations.”
While the resolution does not carry the force of law, it puts pressure on Florida’s top health official to act. Dr. Ladapo has previously voiced skepticism about mRNA vaccines and has been critical of federal COVID-19 vaccine guidance, making this appeal especially significant in the context of Florida’s ongoing public health debate.
Critics of the resolution, including public health experts, warn that such rhetoric is dangerous and unsupported by scientific consensus. The CDC, FDA, and global health authorities maintain that mRNA vaccines are safe and effective in preventing severe illness and death from COVID-19.
