BREAKING NEWS: Two Dead, Multiple Injured in Florida State University Shooting

TALLAHASSEE, FL — April 17, 2025 — A deadly shooting at Florida State University has left two people dead and multiple others injured in a horrifying midday attack that sent the campus into lockdown.

The violence erupted near the Student Union building shortly after noon, where students reported hearing gunfire and seeing crowds fleeing in panic. Emergency services quickly descended on the scene as campus alerts urged students and staff to shelter in place.

Law enforcement officials have confirmed that two people have died as a result of the shooting. Authorities have not released their identities, but they stated the deceased were not students. Multiple other victims were rushed to Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, with at least one listed in critical condition and others in serious condition.

A single suspect has been taken into custody. Officials say he was found carrying a handgun, and a shotgun was later recovered inside the Student Union. A third firearm was discovered in the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect’s name has not been released, and a motive remains unclear.

“This is a tragedy for our community, and we are working diligently to understand what happened and why,” said a spokesperson for the Florida State University Police Department. The FBI’s Jacksonville field office has joined the investigation.

In response to the shooting, FSU has canceled all classes through Friday and suspended all home athletic events for the weekend. The Student Union remains an active crime scene as investigators process evidence.

This is the second major shooting in recent history on FSU’s campus, following a 2014 incident at the university library that left three injured.

Authorities are asking anyone with information or footage of the incident to contact law enforcement as the investigation continues.

More updates will follow as details become available.
