Update: One Dead, Two Injured in Early Morning Three-Vehicle Crash on SH 321 in Dayton

Dayton, TX – May 7, 2025 — A three-vehicle collision on State Highway 321 early Wednesday morning resulted in the death of one driver and left two others with minor injuries, according to the Dayton Police Department.

The crash occurred around 5:55 a.m. in the 4000 block of N. Cleveland Street (SH 321), just south of County Road 668. Dayton Police, the Dayton Volunteer Fire Department (DVFD), Kenefick Volunteer Fire Department, Allegiance EMS, and the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the scene.

According to Lt. Eric Ibarra, spokesperson for the Dayton Police Department, the crash was caused when a red 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by a 36-year-old Dayton man, veered into oncoming traffic while traveling southbound. The Tahoe first sideswiped a black 2018 Dodge Dually outfitted with a welding rig, driven by Troy Belveal, 36, of Nebraska. It then continued into the path of a black 2015 Ford F-250, driven by Anthony Gary, 30, of Michigan, and struck it head-on.

Emergency responders arrived to find the driver of the Tahoe entrapped in the wreckage. Crews worked rapidly to extricate the victim, who was then turned over to Allegiance EMS. Despite life-saving efforts, the Tahoe’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The drivers of the other two vehicles sustained minor injuries and were treated on site.

Fire crews assisted in clearing debris while the Dayton Police Department began its investigation into the cause of the crash. The scene was cleared and all units were back in service after several hours.

No charges have been filed at this time, and the identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The investigation remains ongoing.
