HOUSTON, TX — A Harris County Precinct One Deputy Constable was injured Monday in a shooting that has now revealed deeper ties between the suspect and Liberty County, raising fresh concerns over repeat offenders and cross-county tracking of criminal activity.

The suspect, whose name has not been publicly released at this time, was reportedly released from prison in 2023 and has a documented criminal history spanning both Harris and Liberty counties. Law enforcement sources confirm that the individual had previous run-ins with the law, including charges related to weapons, assault, and other felonies.
The shooting occurred during a routine patrol operation in northwest Houston. According to authorities, the deputy attempted to make contact with the suspect when shots were fired, striking the deputy. The officer was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is currently recovering.
“This could have been much worse,” said a spokesperson for Harris County law enforcement. “The deputy is expected to recover, but this incident once again highlights how dangerous the job can be, and how critical it is to monitor high-risk offenders—especially those moving across jurisdictional boundaries.”
Investigators are now working to piece together the suspect’s full criminal background and determine whether any missed warning signs could have prevented this violent encounter. Liberty County officials confirmed they are cooperating with Harris County investigators to provide records and assist in any way possible.
This case has reignited debate around offender tracking, early release programs, and the communication gap between counties when it comes to shared criminal data.
The suspect is currently in custody, facing a range of new charges including attempted capital murder of a peace officer. A court appearance is expected later this week.
As more details emerge, officials are urging the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity in their communities. The deputy, whose identity has not yet been released, is said to be in good spirits and surrounded by family.
This is a developing story. Stay tuned for updates as the investigation continues.
