San Jacinto County, TX — March 19, 2025
A rapidly expanding wildfire, now known as the Pauline Fire, has consumed approximately 2,388.1 acres in San Jacinto County, Texas, prompting widespread evacuations and emergency response efforts. Authorities report the fire is 20% contained, but strong winds and dry conditions continue to fuel its spread. Officials warn that winds will remain strong throughout the day, making containment efforts more difficult.
In response to the escalating situation, San Jacinto County Judge Fritz Faulkner has declared a disaster for the county, allowing additional state and federal resources to be deployed for firefighting efforts and disaster relief.
Evacuations Ordered
Local officials have issued mandatory evacuation orders for the following areas:
• Peach Creek Estates
• Lee Turner Road
• Big Buck Drive
• Hereford Way
• Blue Teal
• Holstein Drive
• Cross Cut
• Rock Pigeon
• Boar’s Run
• Grey Goose
• Brown Bear
• Duroc Court
• Big Beaver
• Grant Lake Circle
• North Duck Creek (north of Blue Teal)
San Jacinto County Sheriff Greg Capers urged residents in these areas to evacuate immediately, warning that fire conditions are making rescues difficult. “If you’re in an evacuation zone, now is the time to leave. This fire is unpredictable, and staying behind puts lives at risk,” Capers stated.
Firefighting Efforts Intensify
Fire crews, including teams from the Texas A&M Forest Service, local volunteer fire departments, and additional state resources, are battling the blaze on multiple fronts. Helicopters and air tankers have been deployed to drop water and fire retardant in an effort to slow the fire’s advance.
However, officials caution that winds will remain strong throughout the day, creating unpredictable fire behavior and hindering containment efforts.
Shelters Open for Displaced Residents
Several evacuation centers have been set up for those forced from their homes:
• San Jacinto County Shelter – 255 Live Oak Street, Coldspring
• East Montgomery County Community Center – 16401 1st Street, Splendora
• Calvary Baptist Church – 816 Blair Ave, Cleveland
Additionally, the Caney Creek Cowboy Church in Conroe is accepting displaced livestock.
Road Closures and Safety Warnings
Officials have closed several roads in the affected areas. Residents are urged to avoid Pauline Road and surrounding areas. Smoke from the fire is causing poor air quality, and those outside evacuation zones are advised to stay indoors if possible.
State and Federal Response
With the disaster declaration from Judge Faulkner, additional state resources are being mobilized. Governor Greg Abbott has been briefed on the wildfire, and the Texas Division of Emergency Management is working alongside local officials to coordinate response efforts.
