Liberty County, TX – April 15, 2025 — A man suspected in a recent vehicle theft case in Liberty County has been identified and taken into custody, thanks to community assistance and surveillance footage released by local authorities.
The suspect, 34-year-old Shane Austin Archer, was arrested Tuesday morning, April 15, by investigators and narcotics units with the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office. Archer was apprehended without incident in the 1000 block of County Road 450.
The case began on March 19, when a vehicle was reported stolen from a home in Hull, Texas. The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office later recovered the vehicle unoccupied. Investigators then obtained surveillance footage from a nearby Burger King at Highway 90 and Highway 321 in Dayton, which showed the stolen vehicle in the drive-thru, driven by a male suspect.
On Monday, April 14, the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office released images from the footage to the public, seeking help identifying the suspect. Within just one hour of the release, Archer was positively identified by members of the community.
“We’re incredibly grateful for the help of our local media and community,” said Captain David Meyers of the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office. “Their quick response and cooperation helped us resolve this case swiftly and safely.”
Archer now faces charges related to the theft of the vehicle. Further details regarding his charges or upcoming court appearances have not yet been released.
The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office continues to encourage residents to report suspicious activity and support local law enforcement in keeping the community safe.
