Fort Bend County Judge KP George Arrested on Money Laundering Charges

RICHMOND, TX — April 4, 2025 — Fort Bend County Judge KP George was arrested this week and faces two felony charges of money laundering, marking a significant development in a series of legal troubles for the county’s top elected official.

According to court records, George is accused of laundering money in amounts ranging from $30,000 to $150,000 during a period spanning January 12 to April 22, 2019, just months after he began his first term in office. Each charge is classified as a third-degree felony under Texas law and carries a potential sentence of two to ten years in prison.

The indictments allege that George engaged in wire fraud and falsified a government document—specifically a campaign finance report—with intent to defraud. Prosecutors claim the financial transactions in question involved personal funds and campaign reimbursements that were misrepresented in official filings.

George, who was released on a $20,000 bond, denies any wrongdoing and maintains the charges are politically motivated. In a statement released by his office, he said:

“Let me be absolutely clear, there is nothing illegal about loaning personal funds to my own campaign and later repaying that loan. This is a standard and lawful practice.” He described the investigation as a “political witch hunt” orchestrated by the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office.

This is not George’s first brush with controversy. In September 2024, he was indicted on charges related to alleged misrepresentation of identity during his 2022 re-election campaign. Prosecutors claimed George, along with former chief of staff Taral Patel, used fake social media accounts to influence voters.

The latest charges have reignited calls for George’s resignation. Fort Bend County Democratic Party Chairman Fred Taylor publicly urged him to step down, saying, “It’s time for him to do the right thing.”

As the case develops, George continues to serve as County Judge, though legal and political pressure is mounting. A trial date has not yet been set, and the investigation remains ongoing.
