GOODRICH, March 17, 2025 – A violent crash on FM-1988 West left one driver fighting for his life after his vehicle slammed into the back of a heavy-duty cargo truck.
At approximately 3:06 p.m., the driver of a black 2007 Chevy Aveo was traveling westbound when, for reasons yet unknown, he collided with the rear of the massive truck with devastating force. The impact left the Chevy crushed and the driver trapped inside the wreckage.
Emergency responders from the Livingston and Goodrich Volunteer Fire Departments rushed to the scene, working urgently to extricate the driver from the mangled vehicle. Allegiance Ambulance Service and multiple Texas Highway Patrol troopers, including Trooper Damon Zarate, also arrived to assist.
The driver of the cargo truck escaped physical injury, but the driver of the Chevy was in critical condition. As the situation grew more dire, an AirLife medical helicopter landed directly on FM-1988, shutting down all traffic as first responders worked swiftly to stabilize the wounded driver before airlifting him from the scene.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.
