BEECH CREEK, March 16, 2025 – A routine turn turned into chaos Sunday night when a Chevy Blazer violently slammed into a loaded trailer, leaving two people hospitalized and traffic at a standstill on US-190 East.
At approximately 8:40 p.m., 70-year-old Gonzalo Ramirez Adjuntas of Livingston was eastbound in his black 2006 Chevy Silverado, hauling a heavy trailer loaded with riding lawnmowers. As he waited in the turning lane to make a left turn, an oncoming tan 2003 Chevy Blazer, driven by 56-year-old Melvin Harris of Bryan, suddenly appeared in the same turning lane, heading directly toward him.
Faced with a split-second decision to avoid a catastrophic head-on collision, Adjuntas jerked his truck left. But in doing so, the Blazer crashed broadside into his loaded trailer with tremendous force, sending debris flying across the highway. The impact left Adjuntas’ vehicle skidding onto the westbound side of 190, while Harris’ Blazer came to a rest in the middle of the road, battered and motionless.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene, including Allegiance Ambulance Service, the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department, Polk County Sheriff’s Deputies, and Texas Highway Patrol Troopers Terrence Dickens and Sean Barnes. Adjuntas emerged physically unharmed, but Harris and his female passenger were seriously injured and quickly transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital.
All lanes of US-190 East were shut down as wreckers from Fawbush Wrecker and Dan’s Towing worked to clear the tangled wreckage of vehicles and the battered trailer.
The Texas Highway Patrol continues to investigate this harrowing crash.
