National Hurricane Center forecasters are tracking a system in the Atlantic Ocean months before the 2025 hurricane season officially begins.
The disturbance, currently a cluster of disorganized showers and thunderstorms, is being classified as non-tropical and is not likely to develop, the NHC said Monday.
The area of low pressure poses no risk to the U.S., Louisiana or the Gulf of Mexico, which has recently been renamed the Gulf of America by President Donald Trump.
Disturbance 1 is located 700 miles northeast of the northern Leeward Islands and is expected to encounter strong winds Tuesday as it moves north or northwestward, the NHC said. The chance for development is low at 10%.
