Liberty County, TX (May 9, 2025) — The National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston has issued a continued Flood Warning for the Trinity River at Liberty, with moderate flooding expected over the coming days. As of 8:15 a.m. Friday, the river stage measured 26.9 feet, exceeding the flood stage of 26.0 feet. Forecasters project the river will continue rising, reaching 28.2 feet by early Monday morning, with further increases possible thereafter.
The warning remains in effect until further notice as conditions along the river continue to worsen.
Impacts:
At current levels, minor flooding is occurring, but the situation is expected to escalate. Once the river surpasses 29.0 feet, major lowland flooding will begin, with homes in several subdivisions above Liberty at risk. Authorities warn that extensive flooding across much of Liberty County could develop with each additional rise in the river.
Safety Advisory:
Officials urge residents to exercise extreme caution:
“Turn around, don’t drown” – never attempt to cross flooded roads. Avoid driving around barricades or through standing water, as most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles. Monitor local updates and obey all road closures or emergency directives.
Additional information and updates can be found at weather.gov/hgx. The next official update is scheduled for 3:30 a.m. CDT Saturday.
Residents in low-lying areas and near the riverbanks are advised to stay alert and prepare for rising waters. Emergency management continues to monitor the situation closely.
