HOUSTON (May 4, 2025) — A party on Houston’s southeast side turned deadly overnight when gunfire erupted shortly after midnight, leaving 14 people shot and one person dead.
Houston Police responded to the 6000 block of Cherryhill around 12:50 a.m. after receiving reports of a mass shooting. According to HPD Assistant Chief Patricia Cantu, the violence began when an uninvited guest was asked to leave the gathering. As he walked out, he opened fire. Someone at the party returned gunfire.
Officers arrived on the scene within three minutes, encountering chaos and multiple victims scattered across the area. Additional shots were reported nearby as police worked to secure the scene.
Some of the injured were transported to area hospitals by ambulance, while others were taken in private vehicles. Three victims were dropped off at a nearby Jack-in-the-Box on Long Street near Loop 610.
In total, 14 individuals were shot. One person was pronounced dead. Several others are in critical condition and undergoing surgery, while some are reported to be in stable condition.
Multiple individuals have been detained for questioning. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the suspected shooter is among them. HPD is actively investigating several related crime scenes.
