Fatal Hit-and-Run: Angelina County Man Killed After Truck Crashes Through Home; Suspect in Custody

Angelina County, TX – April 24, 2025 – A tragic scene unfolded early Thursday morning in the Moffett area of Angelina County, when a vehicle crashed through a home, killing a 70-year-old man, and fled the scene. Authorities have since arrested the suspected driver, who is now facing multiple charges and an immigration review.

At approximately 6:54 a.m., the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting that a vehicle had driven through a residence on FM 842. Deputies and Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers responded to the scene, where they found a devastating sight — the vehicle had entered the home, passed completely through it, and exited the other side.

Inside the residence, first responders discovered the body of Robert Boles, 70, the homeowner, who was struck and killed in the collision.

Investigators determined that the suspect vehicle, identified as a Chevrolet pickup, was traveling northbound on FM 842 when it left the road on a slight curve, struck a tree, and careened into Boles’ home. The vehicle then fled the scene.

A trail of vehicle debris led officers approximately three miles north to a property on Wilkerson Road. There, they located a damaged Chevrolet pickup, partially hidden under a tarp and blocked from view by another truck. Pieces of wood and debris from the destroyed residence were found in and on the truck, and mail addressed to Mr. Boles was discovered nearby in the driveway.

Authorities identified Jorge Urbina Lopez as the suspected driver. Surveillance footage from a nearby convenience store placed Lopez and the vehicle near the crash scene just five minutes prior to the incident. A search warrant for the Wilkerson Road property was obtained by Texas Ranger Corey Seymore. Although Lopez was not found at that location, the pickup was seized for evidence.

Later that day, deputies and troopers tracked Lopez to a second residence along FM 842. After confirming Lopez was inside, law enforcement entered the home and located him hiding partially under a bed. He resisted officers but was taken into custody at approximately 12:45 p.m. without further incident.

Lopez reportedly had over a dozen outstanding traffic warrants and multiple prior arrests. Authorities also confirmed he had previously been deported and was in the United States illegally. His current immigration status is now under review by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Lopez is being held in the Angelina County Jail, with felony charges pending related to failure to remain at the scene of a crash involving a fatality. Additional charges may be forthcoming.

Authorities emphasized that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
