POLK COUNTY, Texas — A routine traffic stop led to the arrest of five people on multiple charges.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, on Wednesday, Feb. 5, officials pulled over a vehicle on Mill Gate Rd. for a traffic violation.
The vehicle was driven by Justin Martin, 36, of Cleveland, with a passenger identified as Holli Pederson, 27, of Livingston.
Officials say they searched the vehicle after smelling marijuana and found Martin and Pederson in the possession methamphetamine and marijuana.
“Following this discovery, the Narcotics Division was contacted, and the information provided by the vehicle’s occupants led to the application for a search warrant,” the PCSO said.
The warrant was issued for the home of Kenneth Ray Lockhart Jr., 60, and and Lou Ann Hudson, 63, both of Livingston, and was executed on Thursday, Feb. 6.
“During the search, officers uncovered a large quantity of methamphetamine, items typically used to package and weigh narcotics for distribution, and additional cocaine,” the PCSO said.
Lockhart Jr. was arrested and charged with manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance .
While performing the search, officials also encountered Calvin Sweeten, 39, and Jeanie Cain, 33, also of Livingston, leaving the residence.
“Upon further investigation, Sweeten was found in possession of methamphetamine, and Cain had less than 1 gram of methamphetamine,” the PCSO said. “Both individuals were also found to have left three juvenile children unattended at their own residence. When detectives and deputies arrived at the residence to check the welfare of the juveniles, they found all three juveniles asleep on a mattress on the floor. The residence was being powered by a long extension cord, ran from the neighboring house where the search warrant had taken place, which had a space heater plugged up and running.”
Sweeten and Cain were additionally charged with three counts each 0of abandoning/endangering a child.
“Child Protective Services was notified, and the three juveniles were placed in their custody,” the PCSO said.
The PCSO says Hudson is expected to after warrants are obtained.
