11-Year-Old Boy Drowns in Cypress Creek After Trying to Help Friend in Spring, Texas

April 5, 2025 – Spring, Texas — A tragic accident unfolded Thursday evening in Spring, Texas, when an 11-year-old boy drowned in Cypress Creek while trying to help a friend who had fallen into the water. The child, identified as Braydin Barlow, was a sixth-grade student at Strack Intermediate School and a beloved member of the local youth football community.

The incident occurred around 6:20 p.m. near the 3700 block of Cypresswood Drive, close to Kuykendahl Road. According to the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office, Braydin entered the creek after his younger friend lost footing and slipped into the fast-moving water. While the younger child managed to climb out safely, Braydin did not resurface.

Emergency crews from multiple agencies, including the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, responded quickly and launched a water rescue operation. After an extensive search along Cypress Creek, Braydin’s body was recovered later that evening. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Braydin was trying to help someone else. He was brave — that’s the kind of kid he was,” said a family friend who gathered with others near the scene on Friday. “This is a devastating loss for everyone who knew him.”

Braydin was known in his community as an energetic and kind-hearted boy who played football and was active in school activities. Grief counselors have been made available to students and staff at Strack Intermediate, where the principal described him as “a joy to be around and a friend to all.”

In the wake of the tragedy, members of the Klein ISD community and local residents have rallied around the Barlow family. A fundraiser and meal train have been organized to support them during this heartbreaking time.

Authorities have stated that the incident appears to be a tragic accident, and the investigation remains ongoing.

As the community mourns the loss of a young life, officials are once again urging parents to talk to their children about water safety and to take precautions around local waterways, especially as warmer weather draws more families outdoors.
